OpenAI's new release is being hyped as a 'Google killer,' but our tests find that ChatGPT search has some work to do before it can top the world's dominant search engine.

Most of us have learned how to enter specific terms when searching for something on Google so that it can output the desired information. However, instead of entering a structured sentence with keywords into Google, you can enter a rambling sentence into ChatGPT Search and still get great results.

OpenAI says it has signed partnerships with certain news, sports, and weather providers, and generally speaking, ChatGPT search already does a good job here. However, Google still has the edge: It's got its hooks deeper into the web, it covers a broader range of sources, and it presents more information in its results.

ChatGPT Search is being positioned as an alternative to Google Search. It will be available across all ChatGPT platforms -- Android, iOS and desktop apps for Windows and macOS.
