The European Union's second-top court has confirmed Qualcomm's antitrust fines, but has reduced the overall fines.

By Foo Yun Chee BRUSSELS (Reuters) -Alphabet unit Google won a legal challenge on Wednesday against a 1.49 billion euro ($1.7 billion) European Union antitrust fine, while Qualcomm failed to repeal a penalty.

Google won a court fight with the European Union over a €1.5 billion ($1.7 billion) fine for thwarting competition for online ads, partly making up for last week’s crushing defeat in a separate judgment for abusing its monopoly powers.

Google won a legal challenge Wednesday against a €1.49 billion ($1.66 billion) antitrust fine from the European Union, while chipmaker Qualcomm failed to repeal a penalty.

Google has avoided a European Union $1.7 billion antitrust penalty over its AdSense advertising platform thanks to a Wednesday ruling from the EU General Court. The court annulled the European Commission fine.

The European Commission, in its 2019 ruling, had accused Google of exploiting its market dominance by restricting websites from using ad brokers other than its AdSense service for search ads.
