RENO, Nev. (KOLO) -A bear severely burned in the Davis Fire is in rehabilitation at the Animal Ark Wildlife Sanctuary, the Nevada Department of Wildlife announced.

Animal Ark, located 28 miles north of Reno, serves as a sanctuary for injured, abandoned, and non-releasable wild animals. The Davis Fire, which started Sept. 7 at Davis Creek Regional Park in Washoe Valley, burned nearly 6,000 acres. NDOW and Animal Ark representatives said they plan to update the bear’s condition as it becomes available.

The male bear was found Wednesday after Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue crews responded to a report of an injured bear off of Granite Road in Washoe Valley.

"Out of the chaos of the Davis Fire comes a nugget of hope," the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District said in a post on Facebook Wednesday.
